
RESEARCH OFFICER
The Tea Research Institute of Tanzania (TRIT) was established in 1996 as an autonomous
organization representing the Government of Tanzania and the tea industry. Its duty is to support
the continued development of the tea industry, both large and small-scale producers, with
appropriate high quality, cost effective research and technology transfer. It is funded by both public
and private and by grant aid from willing donors. TRIT invites suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill
the following vacant position:-
RESEARCH OFFICER
Holders of first degree in agricultural related disciplines (B.Sc in Agricultural Engineering,
General Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or Soil science) from a recognized University.
The candidate must have basic knowledge on the use of computer software particularly MS
office package and at least 1 statistical package. Should be under 30 years of age.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
_ To understudy Senior Researchers in order to acquire experience in carrying out
research work in various fields of Tea in the respective programme.
_ To assist in setting up experiments, data collection and analysis.
_ To search for relevant literature required and writing research reports.
_ To collect, process and analyse Agricultural research data.
_ The candidate must be prepared to undertake further studies when required as part
of career development.
SOIL AND PLANT LABORATORY
Soil testing, plant and water analysis are useful tools for making recommendations for the
application of nutrient amendments to crops. The newly established soil/plant and water
analysis laboratory at TRIT Ngwazi Research Station in Mufindi, Iringa was inaugurated by the
Prime Minister, Hon. Mizengo Pinda in March 2009. Since it started operations, the laboratory
has been providing all the analytical data on soils, plants, fertilizers, herbicides and agricultural
pesticides residues. The laboratory is also active in determining the quality of the produce in
support of the endeavours by the tea industry’s stakeholders and the research programmes
within TRIT. Following the successful establishment of this modern analytical laboratory, the
Tea Research Institute of Tanzania is inviting suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill in the following
additional post.

DUTY STATION
TRIT operates at two locations: Ngwazi Tea Research Station, Mafinga, Mufindi District,
Iringa Region on the shores of the scenic Lake Ngwazi and Marikitanda Tea Research
Station located near Amani in Muheza District, Tanga Region.
